Biography

Jeff Bostwick has served our community for several years as a full time Superior Court Commissioner.  Jeff is seeking election for an open seat as a judge on the San Diego County Superior Court. To date Jeff has obtained the endorsement of more than 100 judges, including former Judge and current Mayor of San Diego, Dick Murphy, as well as the Presiding Judge of the Court. They know Jeff possesses the qualities of a good judge, such as experience, honesty, hard work, fairness and patience.

Jeff is a full-time Superior Court Commissioner.

City Attorney Casey Gwinn endorses Jeff. The statewide Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC), as well as the San Diego and Imperial Counties Chapter of PORAC, which represents law enforcement agencies throughout San Diego County, endorse Jeff.  The Deputy Sheriffs’ Association of San Diego County endorses Jeff. The San Diego Police Officers Association, Oceanside Police Officers Association, La Mesa Police Officers Association, El Cajon Police Officers Association, Coronado Police Officers Association, Chula Vista Police Officers Association, Harbor Police Officers Association, California Correctional Peace Officers Association, Border Patrol Supervisors Association,the San Diego County District Attorney Investigators Association and the Retired Deputy Sheriffs Association endorse Jeff.   Jeff also has support from prosecutors, criminal defense lawyers and civil lawyers because they know he is fair and impartial.

Jeff is an experienced judicial officer.  As a Superior Court Commissioner, he has presided over  criminal and civil cases.  Jeff has won the confidence and respect of the local judges. Last year the judges gave Jeff special permission to preside over criminal jury trials. He was the only Superior Court Commissioner in San Diego County permitted to hear jury trials. In that assignment, Jeff earned the praise of prosecutors, defense lawyers and jurors.  Jeff presides over domestic violence cases in Central San Diego.  He handles requests for emergency protective orders from Law Enforcement agencies throughout San Diego County each business day.  He frequently speaks about domestic violence issues to judges, lawyers and others.  He is member of the California Judges Association and has served on several statewide judicial committees.

Jeff has coached many  youth sports teams, including this girls’ softball team.

Jeff knows the courtroom well.  Jeff practiced law for 19 years before taking the bench as a Superior Court Commissioner.  Jeff tried hundreds of cases in court, including many complex cases. He served for 10 years as a ProTem Judge, hearing trials and handling complex settlements.  He received the San Diego County Superior Court Distinguished Service

Recognition from 1991 through 1997 for his service to our courts.  Jeff has taught at the University of San Diego and the Thomas Jefferson School of Law.  

As judges and lawyers know, Jeff’s integrity has always been above reproach.   When Jeff was appointed as a Superior Court Commissioner, one experienced local attorney commented about Jeff to a newspaper writer: “Everything he did was always done with integrity.”

Jeff has served our community.  He has coached girls softball, girls basketball and boys soccer. He  has served as board member and president of several youth sports organizations.  He was the director of a San Diego deaf education program.  As an active member of his church, Jeff has held many church leadership positions.  Jeff is an Eagle Scout.  Jeff has been a volunteer Boy Scout leader for many years.  He has received several awards for his work with kids.  In 1993, he received Boy Scouts of America’s District Award of Merit and Silver Beaver Award.  In 1998, he was

a co-recipient of the Carolyn Nadeau Service Award for service to a local girl’s softball league.

A resident of San Diego County for more than 25 years, Jeff and his wife Mary have been married for 23 years.  Mary works at a local high school.  They have five children.
