Dan Goldstein has spent 10 years prosecuting cases in the area of child abuse and domestic violence crimes. Currently,
Mr. Goldstein is assigned to the Family Protection Division of the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. He was recently named one of San Diego’s “Top 50” people to watch in 2002 by San Diego Magazine.
Mr. Goldstein has received the San Diego County Deputy District Attorneys’ Association award for Prosecutor of the Year; Law Enforcement Quarterly’s Commendation of the
Quarter; the San Diego Crime Commission’s Blue Knight award; commendation by the Doris Tate Crime Victims Foundation Judicial Review Committee; commendation from
the Victim’s Assistance Coordinating Council; the San Diego Domestic Violence Council’s Distinguished Leadership Award; and a commendation from Sheriff Bill Kolender.
During Mr. Goldstein’s career he has successfully prosecuted many high profile cases, including: James Dailey, convicted of
murdering his wife Guadeloupe whose body was never found; Ivan and Veronica Gonzales, who became the first married couple in California to receive the death penalty after they were
convicted of torturing and murdering their four year-old niece; Manjit Basuta, a highly publicized case of a British daycare provider who was found guilty of shaking a baby to death in her
care; Coy Cox, for the murder for financial gain of Ruth Cox, a local educator and leader; Sally McNeil for the murder of her husband, Mr. California; Mario Rushing, for the murder of
Tamara S. and her unborn fetus; and Daniel Moriarty, the chairman of the University of San Diego’s Psychology Department, for threats against his wife.
Dan has lectured throughout the country on issues involving family protection and ethics. He is nationally recognized as a
leader in the area of domestic violence and child abuse prosecution. Currently, he is an adjunct professor of ethics at the University of Redlands and a criminal law instructor at National University.
Prior to becoming a prosecutor, Mr. Goldstein was employed as a Santa Barbara County Paramedic and training officer for
10 years. During his tenure as a paramedic, Dan served as the first president of the California Paramedic Association.
Mr. Goldstein obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of California, at Santa Barbara, while he worked
full-time as a paramedic. He attended Whittier College School of Law where he graduated magna cum laude. Mr. Goldstein began his career as a prosecutor with the San Diego City
Attorney where he primarily prosecuted child abuse and domestic violence crimes before accepting a position with the District Attorney in 1993.
